THE SIGN OF THE CROSS

The Sign of the Cross is the most profound gesture we make. It is the mystery of the Gospel in a moment. It is the Christian faith summarized in a single gesture.

NECESSITY TO CARRY THE CROSS

“Apart from the Cross

there is no other ‘ladder’

by which we might get to heaven.”

HOW GOD SPEAKS TO US

“God whispers to us in our pleasures,

speaks in our consciences

but SHOUTS in our pains:

it is His megaphone to

rouse a deaf world.”

CHOICE OF ST MAXIMILLIAN KOLBE

“That night, I asked the Mother of God what was to become of me, a Child of Faith. Then she came to me holding two crowns, one white, the other red. She asked me if I was willing to accept either of these crowns. The white one meant that I should persevere in purity, and the red that I should become a martyr. I said that I would accept them both.”

ST LAWRENCE - ONE OF MY FAVOURITE SAINTS

The esteem in which the Church holds Lawrence is seen in the fact that today’s celebration ranks as a feast. We know very little about his life. He is one of those whose martyrdom made a deep and lasting impression on the early Church. Celebration of his feast day spread rapidly. He was one of seven deacons who were in charge of giving help to the poor and the needy. He was a Roman deacon under Pope St. Sixtus II. Four days after this pope was put to death, Lawrence and four clerics suffered martyrdom, probably during the persecution of the Emperor Valerian. Legendary details of his death were known to Damasus (Dec 11), Prudentius, Ambrose (December 7) and Augustine (August 28). The church built over his tomb became one of the seven principal churches in Rome and a favorite place for Roman pilgrimages.

VALUE YOUR STATE OF GRACE

IF YOU DO NOT HOLD SACRED AND SAFE YOUR STATE OF GRACE, SATAN WILL, WITHOUT DOUBT, STEAL IT FROM YOU AND LEAVE YOU NAKED, JUST AS  THIS GUST OF WIND BLEW AWAY ALL PETALS  AND LEFT IT NAKED.

KNOW YOUR TEST BEFORHAND

The school of Christ is the school of charity. On the last day, when the general examination takes place, there will be no question at all on the text of Aristotle, the aphorisms of Hippocrates, or the paragraphs of Justinian.
Charity will be the whole syllabus.
